Description

Cinema history might have been different had the first James Bond film not been Dr. No starring Sean Connery, but instead Thunderball directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Richard Burton as Bond. It sounds unbelievable, but it almost happened. This book unravels the story behind the most controversial part of the James Bond legend.

ROBERT SELLERS - THE BATTLE FOR BOND, published by UK small press publisher Tomahawk, copyright 2007, First Printing (no references to subsequent printings on copyright page & does not have the red band on cover "The book they tried to ban"), large format trade paperback (never published as a hardcover).  This book tells the story of Kevin McClory's battle (including in the court's) to get credit for co-writing Thunderball with Ian Fleming.  This original 1st edition contains a number of controversial passages and documents from the UK trial which caused Ian Fleming's Will Trust to threaten to sue (they ultimately forced the publisher to remove that material), Raymond Benson who wrote the introduction which was removed for the 2008 revised edition (that had an introduction by Len Deighton).  The 2007 first edition is quite rare as the book was pulled from shelves and the publisher was forced to destroy remaining unsold copies of this edition.

This 264 page edition contains a lot of photos, storyboards, scans of memo's, notes, and telegraphs. Quite a few of them had been removed from the next released edition.

Book has no wear to spine tips or to left/right on spine, no vertical spine creasing, no creased page corners, no spine lean, no front cover creasing, no edge wear, no color rubbing to cover, no foxing to pages or outer page edges, no former owner's markings or used book store stamps inside, rear cover is clean - no dust soiling and no color transfer. Book comes with a mylar cover for protection and has not been read, mint condition..
