Description
Once every 100 years the undead of hell terrorize the world in an orgy of stark horror
Black Sunday (1960, aka THE MASK OF SATAN) Starring Barbara Steele, John Richardson, Andrea Checchi, Ivo Garrani, directed by Mario Bava. Considered by many to be one of the greatest horror films ever made. An ancient witch and her hideous servant come back from the grave to fulfill an ancient curse. The opening scene is unforgettable with Steele being branded with a hot iron, then having a spike-filled devil's mask hammered onto her beautiful face. Then of course there's the moment when Barbara's coffin explodes, leaving her slowly resuscitating body writhing on her coffin's inner-tomb pedestal. The masterful eye of director Mario Bava made this a highly atmospheric classic filled with wonderful b&w cinematography. This is also the film that established Steele as a major horror star.
