Description

In September of 1994, the Hurricanes were ranked #6 in the nation and riding a college football record 58 game home winning streak that had begun in 1985. The Huskies were ranked #17 and still considered a dangerous team, but they were far removed from their championship form of 1991.

Despite a solid effort by the Washington defense in the first half, Miami looked to be in control of the game leading 14-3 at halftime, but the third quarter would be an absolute nightmare for the Hurricanes. Washington would take advantage of an aggressive Canes defense that was constantly over pursuing, and complete a 75-yard screen pass for a touchdown. After a two-point conversion made the score 14-11, Miami would get the ball back looking to strike quickly. Unfortunately wide receiver Jammi German would fall down on a simple out rout giving Washington cornerback Russell Hairston an easy interception and 35 yards of open field to return it for a touchdown.

Everything went UW’s way after that. Fumbles and tipped passes all ended up in the hands of Huskies players and Miami would lose in the Orange Bowl for the first time in nearly a decade. Final score 38-20.
